Emmenthal - AOC

Emmental is a popular, semi-hard cheese from Switzerland. Considered the “original Swiss cheese”, it is world-famous for its distinctive, large holes and singular, mellow flavor. Its creamy, pale-yellow paste possesses a nuttiness with slight acidity and a suggestion of herbs.

This famous cheese has been around a while! The first wheels appeared over 8 centuries ago at 200lbs each and they still prepare this tasty cheese in the same sized wheels. It is AOC certified, which ensures only traditional ingredients and methods are used to make it. Expert cheese-makers use fresh raw milk from grass-fed cows and age it for a minimum of 120 days in the microclimate of the Emmi cellars. Some cheese-makers put their individual stamp on the finished cheese to help protect the brand from fakes.

This delicious Emmental is very versatile and you can enjoy it in many ways: it is a fantastic addition to an Alpine cheeseboard or sliced up into a gourmet sandwich. It is a great cooking cheese as it melts so well – melt a block down and have your own fondue night with chunks of bread for dipping.
