5 Gourmet Ways to Celebrate Galentine’s Day!

Who said Valentine’s day had to be reserved for just the romantic kind of love? We think enjoying the love of our favorite ladies and celebrating friendship is just as important and definitely just as much fun. Celebrate all the women in your life this Galentine's day with a gourmet spread! From small bites and appetizers to delicate macarons and pastries, you’ll wish it was Galentine’s day every day!

What is Galentine’s Day?

Never heard of Galentine’s Day? Allow us to fill you in. It all started over a decade ago when one of the lead characters on the sitcom Parks and Recreation (Leslie Knope) created her own holiday in response to Valentine’s Day. A fun female-only day of festivities held on February 13th, Galentine’s is a day set aside for friendship. And no celebration is complete without a delicious spread of gourmet delights! Keep reading for our five favorite ways to feed your friends this Galentine’s Day.

Brunch Pastries

There’s nothing quite so much fun as starting your morning with a boozy brunch, including all the tasty trimmings. Soak up your third cocktail before noon with light and flaky authentic French pastries. Our selection of unbaked pastries spans everything from 100% butter croissants and pan au chocolate to lemon pillows, bear claws, and fruit danish. Simply throw them in the oven and pop a bottle of pink champagne for a Parisian brunch your friends will be talking about for the rest of the year.

Parisian Treats

No Valentine’s or Galentine’s day is complete without the obligatory sweet. While chocolate has been the classic go-to dessert for Valentine’s day, in honor of doing something a little different with our best friends, our choice is the macaron! These delightful little pastel sandwich cookies not only look the part, but their unique combination of crisp exterior and delicious chewy insides make them a universal favorite. The perfect sweet ending to your Galentine’s day or the ideal gift to send to the gals who couldn’t make it, our boxes of assorted Parisian almond macaroons will hit the spot.

Charcuterie

So many equate Valentine’s and Galentine’s with nothing but pink hearts and sweets, but you’ll find whenever you’re hosting, the first dish picked bare is always the charcuterie board! Rich and savory, this element of a well-laid table has all the makings of a meal in itself, and the endless options it provides; make them practically irresistible. To make your cured meats even more on-theme, we like to cut our delicate slices into the shape of hearts using a cookie cutter. It’s the little touches that will make your celebration extra special. To finish off your selection of meats be sure to add a few bowls of olives, cornichons, gourmet mustards, and something sweet like honey, or a rich jar of fruit preserves.

Caviar

Take the sophistication up a notch and treat your friends to the pinnacle of luxury with real Russian caviar! A treat perhaps some of them have never experienced before, serving authentic caviar is not only delicious but looks extremely elegant. All the glass, silver, crushed ice, and mother of pearl make the simple act of eating into a refined ritual. Start a new tradition with your best friends by incorporating a couple of tins of caviar into your annual Galentine’s day festivities.

Gifts for the Gals

While we can’t always get together in person, don’t forget to let your besties know you’re thinking about them this February 13th. While ordering your delicious Galentine’s day menu from Gourmet Food World, pick up a few sweet treats to give as party favors or send as gifts. We love making up little cellophane bags of chocolate-covered almonds or candied pecans complete with pink bows. Offer them on the way out the door and let them take home a little something to remind them of the day!

So, no matter how you choose to celebrate the ladies in your life this year, don’t forget to set aside some time to honor your friendships. Whether you host a big party or an intimate gathering of your nearest and dearest, make the most of this year’s Galentine’s day with some good food and good friends.
