Montgomery Farmhouse Cheddar by Neal's Yard Dairy is a dry, friable cheddar with savory flavor. Made with raw cow’s milk, this clothbound cheddar almost melts in your mouth. The long finish is complete with earth and fruit notes that come through the dry texture. You’ll notice the deep, brothy taste in this cheddar that is aged over 14 months.
Each bite of this wonderful cheese brings complex notes of beefy and nuttiness as the clothbound process lets the product breathe over time. Clothbound cheddars, in general, will be a lot crumblier in texture. However, this allows for a more balanced flavor in the finished product. The cheddar is bold and the product of much care and continuous tasting during the process. As it comes from a five-time World Cheese Award winner, you can count on the consistent quality of this fine English cheddar.
This farmhouse cheddar is made at the Manor Farm in Somerset from third-generation farmers who have established their stake in cheesemaking history. The milk comes from the farm’s 140 Friesian-Holstein cows, so there is no freshness lost in transportation time. Since 1911, Montgomery’s has been widely considered the benchmark for Somerset cheddar due to the perfect balance of modern technology and traditional cheesemaking techniques. Only three head cheesemakers have taken the helm in the last 50 years.
Try this Montgomery Farmhouse Cheddar English-style on rustic bread paired with any of our selection of mustards and a hard, English cider. Traditionally, clothbound cheese pairs well with sweet, fruity wines. Use a variety of smoked nuts to harmonize with this cheddar.
