Coho is a lean variety of salmon with a milder flavor than most salmon. Does that mean inferior taste? Of course not! Think a little less gamey when you compare it to another salmon species like sockeye. Our Alaskan Coho Salmon Filet by Samuels and Son is superior to any other Coho Salmon you’ve ever tasted. Each filet is fresh caught wild salmon from icy-cold Alaskan waters. They’re full of flavor and low on fat and cholesterol. Like most fish, this fillet is loaded with healthy Omega-3 fatty acids.
As we said, Coho salmon is much leaner than its cousins Sockeye and King, and this is wild caught, which means it also has a lower fat content than farmed salmon. Those facts are important to note before cooking. Whatever method you choose, cook your Coho for a shorter time period than you’re used to with most salmon. Be gentle and use foil and low temperatures to prevent overcooking. If you’re going to turn our Coho into lox, we recommend using a cold-smoker as opposed to a hot-smoker to prevent drying out the filet. As always salmon pairs best with full-bodied white wines or red wines low in tannins.
Samuels and Son began as a company in 1988, but the family started in the fishing business back in the 19th century. Over the years, they’ve expanded through different technologies and markets and always kept the same great quality. This Wild Caught Alaskan Coho Salmon Filet by Samuels and Son is another example of their dedication to fresh, quality seafood.
