Buttery, creamy raw cow’s milk blue cheese from Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese is the original classic-style blue cheese from California. Milky white with blue-green veins, this semi-soft cheese will have you wanting more after every bite. It’s a blue with a strong aroma that you’ll notice the moment you open the package, but the flavors are sweet as it’s made with fresh raw milk harvested on their own farm.
The sweetness of the milk is balanced with an almost peppery finish after the aging process which lasts over 100 days. Point Reyes Blue Cheese is made with microbial rennet which is important because it makes the cheese fully vegetarian and also gives it a punch of bitterness. Combine that with the sweet, fresh milk, and that’s what really makes this cheese one of the most flavorful, creamy blue cheeses you’ll ever taste.
Point Reyes Blue Cheese tastes great on salads and as a topping on grilled vegetables. Try melting a little on top of your favorite burger or a dollop on a grilled steak. Many classic pasta dishes go great with quality blue cheese and try mixing it into scrambled eggs or mashed potatoes. You can always drizzle some honey over this flavorful cheese as well as well. The sweetness of the milk combined with the peppery finish makes this cheese a perfect pairing with fruit-forward red wines like Cabernet or Zinfandel.
Point Reyes operated as a dairy farm from 1959 to 2000, but when the operations of the farm began to stress the land too much, the four entrepreneurial daughters of the Giocomini family transitioned their business into artisanal cheesemaking. Multi-generational experience making quality milk is put into their fantastic cheeses. Each cow is raised from birth on their farm which gives them complete quality control. They work hard to preserve their farmland and make it sustainable in every way possible. Since switching to cheese making, their creamery has won numerous awards including the 2017 World Cheese Awards Silver Award for their Point Reyes Blue Cheese.
